Day 14- 20 miles

Woke up early and decided to walk the 2 miles down to Green valley where I had heard of a rumored pay phone. But even better there was a quaint little cafe open at 7:00 am. Couldn't pass it up and they were nice as well. Had a breakfast burrito with bacon, eggs, potatoes, cheese, and a coke for 5 bucks. Chatted with some of the locals and watched a little news before inquiring on the pay phone, yep just around the back one of only 2 in town. Called my folks before before heading back up the road to the ranger station. Here I ran into Damian as he was heading to hostel, Also ran into Loren again this time with his hiking partner Joan. Hiked with them for a while before striking on ahead. Did 8 really good miles before 1:00 before finding water. So I tanked up there and dried my sleeping bag and then off again. Hiked all the usual desert scenery before climbing up to a tree plantation. Here I found coulter pines and incense cedar [ a little bit of home ], But also ran into dirt bikers tearing up the trail. Ate lunch and rested a while before Loren came around the trail. He talked of the same bikers I had seen and that they had tried to run him off the trail, he also mentioned that Damian was back on the trail and hiking with Joan. I told him I was heading to Upper shake camp and hoped they would join me, and shortly after they indeed did. Made for a nice camp and even had good cold water from a stream below camp. For dinner was mashed potatoes with crushed pringles and beef jerky mmmm, I think??
