The shelter was so cozy I slept in a bit. Woken up by a ranger checking on the cabin. Got going quickly after that ate a pop tart tanked up and was off.
Beautiful trail today that was filled with big trees, open meadows, creeks, lakes, wildlife all I could hope for. Flowers were in bloom adding an increadible splash of color to the sea of green and brown. Griffin pass was snow free so routfinding was easy.
Met a few people today as well, first met a guy northbound trying to finish oregon, than ran into an older pair of sisters who had questions about the trail ahead of them for they were heading north as well so I left them with what info I had before running into Jim and Wendy who like me had decided to flip ahead to finish the sierras later, nice folks.
Started putting up miles as I rounded Howard prairie lake going through a pretty dense area of timber I was startled by a very large bird flew out fom the groundcover up to a nearby snag. Struggling to get my camera with the bird just 10 yds away from me, As I gather myself an my camera then look through the lens I notice the large bird is actually an owl what an amazing creature.
There couldn't possibly be anything that could make this day better or could there. Made such good time today that when I arrived at the 19 mile mark near hyatt lake. With 2 1/2 miles left I was pretty sore my feet especially but with rumors of a resort cafe 3/4 mile down the road I couldn't resist. And to my suprise it was even better than a cafe it was a pizza parlor whoo hoo! Cove pizza and some ice cold sodas while sitting down for the first time in hours, took all my aches and pain away. So after enjoying my feast I signed the register and began the 2 miles to make camp at little hyatt lake only now I had a big smile on my face.
Now it couldn't get better right. Made it to camp just in time to see fish rising. So quickly I rigged up my pole and got about 45 min of fishing before it got to dark got a strike but couldn't land it. So now I lay in my sleeping bag going over what a great day I just had before I fall asleep
